Crewmember (D) visas are nonimmigrant visas for persons working onboard commercial sea vessels or international airlines in the United States, providing services required for normal operation and intending to depart the United States on the same vessel or any other vessel within 29 days.
The Process
Applying for a visa involves several steps, which may differ in order and execution depending on the U.S. Embassy or Consulate you are applying to.
- Complete the Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application (Form DS-160): You need to fill out the online application and print the confirmation page to bring to your interview.
- Photo Submission: While completing the DS-160, you will upload your photo, ensuring it meets the specifications outlined in the Photograph Requirements.
Schedule an Interview
interviews are typically necessary for visa applicants, with some exceptions outlined below. Consular officers may request an interview from any visa applicant.
Age and Interview Requirements:
- 13 and younger: Usually not required
- 14-79: Required (with some exceptions for renewals)
- 80 and older: Usually not required
You should arrange your visa interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence. While you can schedule it at another U.S. Embassy or Consulate, be aware that qualifying for a visa may be more challenging outside your home country.
How long is the crew visa valid for?
Crew visas are for multiple entries and are valid for 2 years. After it expires, you will need to apply for a new one.
